Antrim Township has officially passed an ordinance aimed at managing food processing waste.
What is the Food Processing Residuals Ordinance?
Chapter 70 entitled “Food Processing Residual Land Application and Storage” creates regulations for how food processing waste can be stored and used on land within Antrim Township.
What Will It Regulate in Antrim Township?
The ordinance includes FPR rules on:
Distance from Natural Features such as streams, wetlands, and other natural areas.
Distances from Groundwater, Bedrock and high water tables.
Steep Slope Regulations such as on hilly or steep land.
Erosion & Sediment Control to prevent soil erosion and keep waste in place.
Field Markings on areas where waste is applied to the land.
Quality & Testing Requirements
Storage Requirements
Water Supply Protection
Nuisance Prevention & Cleanup
Violations & Penalties for not following the rules.
The ordinance also mandates keeping detailed records and notifying the public when necessary.
The Vote and Adoption
At a public meeting on April 8, 2025, the Antrim Board of Supervisors voted to officially adopt the ordinance. This means the new rules are now in effect and will guide how food processing residuals are handled in the township moving forward.
